Diggers Rest Film Maker - Dale Azzopardi

Diggers Rest's Dale Azzopardi is cutting the edge of film making. He uses creativity and resourcefulness rather than big budgets to produce movies that shock, amuse and challenge our views.

His "off-the-wall" improvised film, Production Hell was produced in conjunction with Gisborne's Tanya Rich in 2010, the candid "ego-bashing" film was shown at the Sydney Improvised Film Festival and contended for Best Film. The hour-long flick, described by Azzopardi as an arthouse, comedy and horror piece, takes a candid camera look into the lives of a group of film location scouts who are unaware they have been set up and are part of a movie.

Production Hell was a bit out there. It also received an honourable mention at the Dungog Film Festival and Azzopardi's other film Steps was shortlisted at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.
Azzopardi has appeared in many Australian parts with the great honour of acting in “Bed of Roses” with Julia Blake and beloved Bud Tingwell (in his final role).

Dale is in the midst of filming a new production titled, “Sustain” a fearful, intense movie that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. It is about a drifter, with a family past, must take the law into his own hands and find his brother before its too late. A timeless cat and mouse revenge thriller.
A feature film by Dale N.E. Azzopardi due for release 2015.

Many famous actors and filmmakers started their careers in Australian films, a large number of whom have acquired international reputations, and a number of whom have found greater financial benefits in careers in larger film producing centres such as Hollywood. Byron Eric Kennedy and George Miller began their filmmaking careers in a similar ways to Azzopardi, to burst into Australia’s theatres with the production of Mad Max 1.

Dale is well on his way and we look forward to seeing the full length version of  Sustain.
