Diggers Rest Man Killed In Deer Park

Police report that a gang of ten teens to early 20s burst into a home at Billingham Road, Deer Park last night, (Sunday - Australia Day 2014). They used weapons to smash windows and a car parked in the front driveway. They then confronted the seven people inside.

Within minutes, the gang ran into the home, caused as much damage and injury as possible, and then ran out in a cowardly attack. The fight left a woman with leg injuries, a man with a cut hand and the 20-year-old man dying. The police said that the group beating is not random and everyone was known to each other.

A neighbour reported seeing a group of men carrying metal bars, timber and possibly baseball bats outside the house just after 9.30pm. The neighbour said the men “rushed the house” in two stages. ‘‘It was very well organised, very short, sharp. They knew what they wanted to do and they did it,” said the neighbour, who did not want to be named.
"Within 60 to 90 seconds they were all out the front again. They gathered for 10 or 15 seconds, words were exchanged between themselves and then, for some reason, they went back inside again. There was a lot of screaming.”

The Police said that the man who died was a friend of the man who was living in the home. The victim had been staying there but normally lived in Diggers Rest,

It is very sad to lose one of our community and our condolences go to friend and family.
