How Will QANTAS Sackings Impact Sunbury & Diggers Rest?

The loss of 5,000 jobs across the QANTAS airlines is sure to impact upon the economic and social welfare of our area.

There are many locals who work for the airline; from pilots through to stewards, caterers, cleaners, drivers and baggage handlers. Their loss of income may also hurt downstream businesses such as retail and services. Some workers may struggle to find new employment that may lead to increased social issues such as welfare dependence or even depression.

The early growth of Sunbury was largely due to the construction of the Tullamarine Airport and any decline in airline jobs impacts upon the future of our area.
