Houdini Model Biplane To Land In Library

The Melton City Council has agreed to display a large model of the Houdini Biplane in either the Melton or Caroline Springs library.

A submission was put to council by the Melton Model Aircraft Association, who have repaired the model, to house it in a safe place for public display.

Cr Sophie Ramsay put for the motion to Council to construct an easy accessible, secure cabinet in one of the libraries. Cr Ramsay also recommended that the placement of the model should be reviewed post 2018 when a proposed community hub for Diggers Rest is built. Cr Ramsay told the Council and Gallery that all stakeholder parties have a desire to display in the best manner.

The model biplane was crafted by Mr Ian Satur and commissioned by the Lions Club of Diggers Rest for the 100 year of powered flight celebrations in 2010. The fragile model was housed in Diggers Rest for several years but deteriorated. It was later transported to the Australian Aviation Museum then to Melton for repairs.
